What is Robo Desk?

Robo Desk is a physical customer-facing deployment of conversational AI: a kiosk, counter device or dedicated terminal that lets visitors speak with an intelligent digital receptionist in a branch, lobby, showroom, clinic, hotel, government office or other public location.

Unlike a standard website chatbot, a Robo Desk is designed for an in-person environment. The visitor approaches the device, starts a voice interaction and asks for information or assistance. The system can use an organization's approved knowledge to answer questions, explain services, guide the visitor, identify the right department and support configured workflows.

Robo Desk vs AI Desk

AI Desk describes the intelligent service layer: the business knowledge, conversational behavior and workflows behind the experience. Robo Desk is the physical front-desk form factor used to deliver that experience in a real location. A business may use the same underlying knowledge across a Robo Desk, AI Telephony and other supported channels while adapting the interface to each environment.

Common business uses

  • Visitor greeting and general information.
  • Directions to departments, rooms, counters or service areas.
  • Product and service explanations.
  • Branch-specific hours, policies and contact information.
  • Queue, appointment or service-request guidance where connected systems are available.
  • Multilingual assistance for locations serving diverse visitors.

Design considerations

A physical AI desk should be easy to approach, clearly explain how to start, protect visitor privacy and provide a visible route to a human employee when needed. Microphone placement, speaker volume, ambient noise, accessibility and the physical height and position of the device all affect the experience.
